Work Based
Learning Apprenticeship Schemes

FCT has been involved in developing, managing and providing extensive support for apprenticeship programmes since 1995. In 2008, we were awarded grade 1 (outstanding) across the board by Ofsted as a provider of work based learning (WBL) training programmes.
Apprenticeships allow you to invest in the future of your business. By taking on an apprentice you can acquire specialist skills that allow you to keep abreast of new technology within your sector.
Apprenticeships are designed and developed by industry bodies, known as Sector Skills Councils, for each industry. This means the training is always relevant and is tailored to the needs of your business and your sector by people who genuinely understand what you do. FCT has experience of delivering apprenticeships within the Passenger Transport, Engineering, Management and Health and Social Care sectors.
In April 2011 the Apprenticeship Blue Print was replaced by the Specification of Apprenticeship Standards for England (SASE). Compliance with the SASE is a statutory requirement of the Apprenticeship, Skills, Children and Learning (ASCL) Act. In accordance with the SASE, apprenticeships consist of:
- Competence based element
- Knowledge based element (Technical Certificate)
- Transferable skills (Functional Skills – Maths, English and ICT; or Key Skills – Application of Number, Communication, ICT, Improving Own Learning and Performance and Working with Others).Click here for our Key Skills page
- Employment Rights and Responsibilities
- Personal Learning and Thinking Skills
Apprenticeships are the Government’s preferred work related learning route for all young people aged 16 to 24 and adults aged 25 and above who are capable of achieving full frameworks at Levels 2, 3 or 4. There is no time serving element to an apprenticeship framework. The apprenticeship formally terminates with the successful completion of all the mandatory outcomes. Duration of the apprenticeship will generally vary depending on the intensity of the training activity and prior experience. There are three levels of apprenticeships:
1. Intermediate Apprenticeships – usually last between 18 and 24 months and apprentices work towards a competence based qualification at Level 2, Key Skills or Functional Skills at Level 1 and a technical certificate at Level 2.
2. Advanced Apprenticeships – usually last between 24 and 36 months and apprentices work towards a competence based qualification at Level 3, Key Skills or Functional Skills at Level 2 and a technical certificate at Level 3.
3. Higher Apprenticeship –usually last between 30 and 42 months and apprentices work towards a competence based qualification at Level 4, Key Skills or Functional Skills at Level 2 and a technical certificate at Level 4 or 5.
